Engineering a Multi-Agent WhatsApp Inbox: Collision Lock

How Redis atomic locks and WebSocket events prevent sales reps from double-replying to high-ticket customer inquiries on team WhatsApp dashboards.

Deep Dive & Analysis

The Multi-Agent Chaos Problem

When a sales team scales from 2 to 10 agents managing a shared WhatsApp number, collision is inevitable: two reps message the same prospect at the same second with conflicting answers, or worse, both assume the other is handling it and the lead goes cold.

Architectural Solution: Redis Distributed Locks

To solve this, our custom WhatsApp CRM architecture implements real-time collision prevention:

// Acquire atomic claim on the active conversation
$lock = Cache::lock("conversation_lock:{$conversationId}", 60);
if (!$lock->get()) {
    return response()->json([
        'status' => 'locked',
        'agent' => $currentActiveAgent->name,
    ]);
}

Real-Time Live Presence via WebSockets

  • When Agent A opens an inquiry, a WebSocket ping notifies all other connected team screens with an active "Agent A is responding" badge.
  • Draft inputs are synced so managers can view real-time replies before they dispatch.
  • Complete message audit logs record which staff member sent each response.
